Bio
Mel Erickson was born in Salinas, CA When she was twelve, her family moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Thirteen years later, Erickson moved with her four-year-old twin daughters to Binghamton, NY. In 2001, children happily graduated, she found her way to Nashville, where she says she has finally found “home.”
Much of Erickson’s work is informed by childhood experiences, including hiking with friends through fields of wild poppies and lupines in California.
Erickson is a self-taught artist. Having a very creative mother, she was exposed as a child to a variety of mediums, including oil painting, sewing, and creating forms in Plaster of Paris and concrete. She landed on acrylic painting as a form of self-therapy in 2005.
Erickson’s work has been included in many group exhibits in and around Nashville. Recent exhibits include cë gallery, Centennial Art Center, and Gordon Jewish Community Center. She has also had a solo exhibit at The John P Holt Library in Brentwood in TN.
Erickson still lives in Nashville, TN, with her two unemployed dogs. She has worked in IT for an eternity and looks forward to retirement when she can just paint all day, every day.
